The basalt columns of Reynisfjara are a natural cathedral, and the black sand against the white surf is unforgettable. But the sneaker waves here are lethal — every year they catch people out. Never turn your back on the ocean, stay well up the beach, and watch the warning light system. Combine it with the clifftop view from Dyrhólaey nearby for the full south-coast drama.
